Hide Those Cords

Tame all of the electrical cords in your home office with the Cord Control Kit from The Container Store. The kit includes a 6-foot tube (in black or white) with an access slit for inserting cords. You can cut the tube for short runs or add additional tubes if needed. You also get six beaded wire ties to bundle the cords, plus color labels for color coding cords and plugs, making equipment connection a snap. The kit costs $14.99.

Keep Smiling

How many small-business owners recognize the connection between smiling employees and a profitable business? Not enough, says Paul Spiegelman, CEO of The Beryl Companies and author of the new book “Why Is Everyone Smiling? The Secret Behind Passion, Productivity and Profit” (Brown Books Publishing Group, 2007). “Every business owner should realize how personally fulfilling it can be to treat co-workers exceptionally well and develop them incessantly,” says Spiegelman. In friendly and first-person terms by Spiegelman and his employees, the book offers low- and no-cost practices that will impact the lives of employees and the success of small businesses.
