Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

The first step to building online relationships with existing and potential customers is to capture their e-mail addresses. And the best place to do that is on your Web site. Place a big “Join Our E-Mail List” box in a prominent spot on your site. Assure participants of the privacy and security of their e-mail addresses. As soon as you get their addresses, start communicating with these people and build relationships for the long term.

Publicity Tip

Next time you target a reporter for a publicity pitch about your small business, check the publication’s Web site to see if the reporter maintains a blog. Look to see what topics the journalist is blogging about. Then post a comment that’s appropriate. For example, if a local newspaper reporter is blogging about the high cost of home cooling bills, as owner of your own AC service company, you could comment on the blog with tips about how to reduce bills. Your blog comment puts you on the reporter’s radar as a potential source for future articles.
