Keeping up with the latest trends in your industry can give you a competitive advantage. You’ll be able to identify and react to market changes as well keep tabs on your competitors. Here are five ways to stay informed.

  1. Subscribe to industry magazines. Read the articles for the latest information and read the ads to know what your competitors doing.
  2. Join industry-specific organizations. Attend conferences, networking events and trade shows sponsored by the groups.
  3. Subscribe to e-mail newsletters published by industry associations.
  4. Enroll in workshops and seminars targeted specifically for your industry.
  5. Regularly visit the Web sites of industry organizations to learn about events and read online articles.

Grab Those Local Shoppers

Small businesses that want to sell to local consumers should be marketing online – and offline, too. That’s the finding from a recent study from comScore Networks. Some highlights from the survey:

  • 82 percent of online local searchers follow up offline via an in-store visit, phone call or purchase. Of these, 61 percent made purchases.
  • 33 percent of all consumers still consider print Yellow Pages as their primary source of local business info, and 90 percent feel it’s valuable because it gives information such as accurate phone numbers.
