Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Direct Mail Is Not Dead

E-mail campaigns may be part of your small business marketing mix. But don’t give up on old-fashioned direct snail mail. A recent survey by International Communications Research (ICR) revealed that even in today’s electronic world, consumers still clearly prefer regular mail for receiving certain offers.

Three out of four survey respondents preferred regular mail for receiving new product announcements or offers from companies they do business with. Regular mail was also preferred by 70 percent of respondents for receiving unsolicited information on products and services from companies they are not doing business with.

Sublease Rights

Before you a sign a lease for office space, try to negotiate sublease rights. These rights let you sublease all or part of the space at any time. Sublease rights give you flexibility and could put extra money in your wallet.

For instance, if your business fails, you could rent the space to another firm and continue making the lease payments. Or you could lease a larger space than you need, then rent a portion to another to business and collect money to help pay for your lease. You might even be able to charge more per square foot than you pay. And that could mean a few extra bucks for your small business.
