Online and offline stuff to make your business buzz

Buddy Up

Women and minority small-business owners can do some serious online networking through Access America, an initiative of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Go to the Web site, www.accessamerica.org, and click Resources in the left column. You’ll find a long and thorough list of online resources with links. Topics include:
  • Financing

  • Government resources

  • International trade

  • Minority business organizations

  • Procurement/purchasing certification

  • Training and technical assistance

  • Women business organizations

Online Ethnicity

If your small business is a wholesaler or retailer of ethnic merchandise, check out EthnicVendors.com. Vendors can advertise for as little as $19.95 per month. Yuwanda Black operates the site, along with EthnicHomeDecor.com and EthnicGiftBaskets.com. She promotes all of the sites to buyers of ethnic merchandise by regularly sending out postcards and brochures. That means your ad on her Web site benefits from her direct-mail marketing. It’s a sure fire way to reach a targeted audience.
