Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Generate Publicity

Get your story in the right publications at the right time and you’ll generate publicity for your small business. First, identify the magazines and newspapers you want to target. Then call their advertising departments and request a copy of their editorial calendars. The calendars are free. They list special editions and topics scheduled for the entire year. With the calendar in hand, you can write and submit articles or press releases to match the editorial needs.

Informed Uniforms

Employee uniforms that display your small-business logo are walking advertisements. Here are some tips to make them work:

  • Get employee feedback to ensure comfort for both men and women
  • Make uniforms functional in every season; think shorts in summer and jackets for winter
  • Purchase uniforms for employees; it’s a good perk that will boost employee morale
  • Make sure uniforms reflect your business style -- for instance hip and sassy or conservative
  • If customers rave about your company’s uniform caps or jackets, offer to sell them; you’ll generate revenue and create more walking ads
