Linking Up

Peppering your Web site with links to other relevant sites is a good business practice. Just be sure you follow all the rules. Always get written permission from the owners of other sites before you post links. To avoid copyright infringements, link to the site’s home page rather than to a specific article, or get permission for a direct link to the copyrighted page. If at any time a site owner asks you to remove a link, do so promptly.

Dialing Up

Still using dial-up for your small business Internet access? You’re not alone, according to a March 2004 report issued by the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy. The report found that 73 percent of small businesses use Internet access services. Of those, 38 percent use dial-up, 26 percent use cable modems and 21 percent use DSL. Only 3 percent use wireless broadband. To out find more, access the “Survey of Small Businesses’ Telecommunications Use and Spending” at http://www.sba.gov/advo/research/rs236tot.pdf.
