The Men’s Market
Women aren’t the only consumers shopping until they drop. A 2004 national consumer survey from Simmons Market Research Bureau shows that young men like to shop too. The report notes that one in four men under the age of 40 shop frequently. The number drops to less 20 percent for men in their fifties. If your small business is targeting guys, go for the market with the biggest wallets: single men between the ages of 25 and 44 who have never married. Their aggregate income is $391 billion.
Make The Call
A simple telephone call might be all it takes to give your small business a boost. Here are four calls to put on your to-do list:
Pick a customer at random. Call her to say thanks for her business.
Choose a former client. Call him and ask why he no longer uses your products or services.
Identify a recent customer. Call her and ask why she chose to do business with you. Then ask what else she would like to see you offer.
Call a customer who just purchased a product or service from you. Ask if he’s satisfied and ask what you could have done better to serve him.
