Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Tip For Sales Letters

You can add some sizzle to your sales letters by always including a P.S. at the end. Recipients usually read the P.S. before they even bother with the body copy of a sales letter. So make your best offer or tout your greatest benefit in the P.S. to hook the reader’s interest. If you can grab their attention in the P.S., recipients will take time to read the body of your letter.

Employee Handbook No-No

A thorough, well-written employee handbook documents the official employment rules, policies and benefits of your small business. But a sloppy, incomplete handbook can get you into trouble by opening your biz to potential employment lawsuits.

For instance, your employee manual should never document a policy that requires employees to give you notice before quitting. That kind of rule could limit your legal right to fire a worker. Also, don’t include any policies that require employees to keep their compensation secret from other workers. U.S. labor laws give employees the right to discuss work-related issues with their fellow employees. Compensation could easily fall into that category.
