Girl Power

If your small business wants to tap the teen market, focus on teenage girls. They’ve got the buying power. A 2005 study by the market research firm ICR found that teenage girls outspend their male counterparts. Girls ages 12 to 17 spend about $47 per week, compared to $45 per week spent by teenage boys. And more girls get their spending money from a constant source – their parents. Eighty-seven percent of teen girls report getting money from their folks, compared to just 77 percent of boys.
