Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Don’t Be A Scrooge

Business owners are planning to open their wallets a little wider this holiday season according to a survey by OPEN from American Express (SM). Holiday budgets for client and customer gifts rose 15 percent from last year. One-third of business owners plan to give employee raises as the year closes. Some tips for gift giving:

  • If you’re handing out employee bonuses, acknowledge all staff. Don’t forget the behind-the-scenes people who have helped craft the successful client presentations and made the travel arrangements.

  • If you can’t afford bonuses, give the gift of time. Extra time off during the holidays demonstrates your appreciation of your staff.

  • It’s easy to purchase gifts in bulk. But reward your best customers with special gifts.

Dirty Desktops

If you eat at your desk (and what busy entrepreneur doesn’t), follow these tips for cleanliness:

  • Prevent bacteria from spoiling your desktop dining experience by keeping these cleaning products handy: antibacterial wipes, sprays and paper towels

  • Keep moist towelettes nearby so you can wash your hands before eating
