Online Decline
Are your online sales declining? Maybe shoppers just don’t feel safe on your Web site. An IBM survey during the 2005 holiday shopping season found that consumers fear identity theft and credit card fraud when shopping online. That fear could be causing buyers to leave your Web site. “Consumers buy from retailers they trust, and those retailers who are making security a priority will have a competitive advantage,” said Joseph L. Gagnon, Global Retail Leader, IBM. The lesson? Beef up online security for your customers. Promote your site’s security measures. Become a trustworthy retailer.
Hire Online
Next time you’re in the hunt for a qualified employee, go online first. In 2005, an SBTV.com poll of 13,000 small-business owners found that more than 65 percent of respondents use online hiring sites when looking for employees. A separate SBTV.com poll showed that nearly 37 percent of small-business owners preferred Monster.com. CareerBuilder.com and Yahoo! Hot Jobs came in second and third respectively.
