How To Market To Women
Article 9: Her Favorite Technology

Cyberspace is no longer a man’s world: Women are now 51.7 percent of Internet users. Today’s woman loves the online world because it enables her to save time, interact with others, conduct research and shop on her own time. More than two-thirds of female users log on between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., from the comfort of home.

An April 2004 AOL study indicated that:
  • 68 percent of female Internet customers do online banking

  • 66 percent use the Net to locate health information

  • 63 percent find recipes online

  • 35 percent research home-improvement projects on the Web

Help her save time by enabling her to research your products and services online before making contact. The more your Web site tells her, the better.

The Internet Research Group reports that 47 percent of female Internet users say they search the Web for product reviews and recommendations; 54 percent use the Internet primarily for information and research.

If you offer online shopping opportunities, build her trust by offering secure e-commerce, easy-to-find contact information, a privacy policy and a logo from Better Business Bureau Online or Verisign.

Keep in touch with female customers by offering an electronic newsletter: 44 percent of women read e-newsletters from Internet stores, says the Internet Research Group. Reward her for subscribing by offering coupons and members-only sales.
