Article 7: Take A Break
Taking time off from work may strike you as a bizarre time-management tactic. But a break to cool your brain will return all sorts of dividends in the long run.
Time away from work will boost your creativity, which will help you solve problems faster. It will also increase your enthusiasm for your work, which will help you work more productively.
Getting out of the same old grind will help you generate fresh ideas. It will put work into perspective and help relieve stress. When you return to the office, you’ll work more efficiently, which will save time.
Finally, giving yourself some rest and relaxation will renew your energy level, something all solo entrepreneurs need to keep in tip-top shape.
Amid the rush of work and the responsibilities of your personal life you might think you have no time left for R&R. But here are three ways to take a little break:
1. Play hooky. Take a few extra days before or after long holiday weekends, like Memorial Day or Labor Day. Many of your clients will likely be out of the office during that time, too, so you won’t be missed.
2. Tack an extra day onto a business trip. Use it for fun, not for work. Schedule business meetings on a Friday, then stay over on a Saturday night. You might reap the rewards of lower airfare and hotel rates as well as gain a play day.
3. You’re the boss, so give yourself some flex time. Vary your work schedule for a welcome change of routine. Take off a couple of hours early on Friday afternoon and catch a movie matinee. Spend the morning at the driving range before checking into to your office. Enjoy a long lunch with a close friend.
