Article 5: Create A Web Site
Web sites are nearly as indispensable as DBAs for home businesses. The great leveling of the Internet puts the smallest businesses operating in the tiniest spare rooms virtually on equal footing with commercial behemoths.
If you run a home business and don’t have a Web site, chances are you will sooner or later. It may as well be sooner.
Getting a Web site domain name is only a click away. There are innumerable online services to help determine if the domain name you want is available. These services can also register the name for you.
The Internet Service Provider (ISP) that you already use is one place to begin. Many ISPs provide not only registration services, but also hosting services for Web sites once created. Some provide the tools for creating them.
Another option is to find a Web design company that will create your Web site. Many also provide registration services. Shop around and you’ll find rock-bottom prices, but be leery of the cheapest. You may get what you pay for.
Even if your Web plans still are in the germinating stage, don’t delay registering your domain name. The name you prefer may not be available if you wait until you’re ready. Reserve it now. The cost is small, and once it’s yours, no one else legally can use it.v
Web domain names must be renewed periodically. Many registration services and ISPs are delighted to let you know when your renewal is coming up so you can pay them to do it for you.
