Minority Business Help

The U.S. Department of Commerce offers minority business owners assistance through the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA). MBDA is the only federal agency created specifically to foster the establishment and growth of minority-owned businesses in the U.S. The agency helps minority businesses via a network of Minority Business Development Centers throughout the country. The Centers provide counseling on every conceivable business issue, from management and marketing to financing and business plans. You’ll find free tools and information at the Web site.

Stay Small And Strong

You don’t have to grow your small business into a big company to be successful. Want proof? Read Bo Burlingham’s book “Small Giants: Companies that Choose to be Great Instead of Big” (Portfolio, 2005). Burlingham, an editor at Inc. Magazine, profiles 14 profitable companies that chose not to pursue massive growth. The author also identifies seven common threads that these successful businesses share. Some of businesses you’ll see profiled: Righteous Babe Records, Anchor Brewing Co., Reel Precision Manufacturing and CitiStorage.
