The ubiquitous sweatshirt turns 80 this year. What better time to put the favorite clothing to work for your small business? Print your business name and slogan on the shirts. Give them away to your best customers or offer to sell them for a few bucks in celebration of the sweatshirt’s 80th anniversary. Folks walking around with your business name printed on their sweatshirts can be an effective and fun way to generate word-of-mouth marketing. “There really is no other item of clothing quite like it,” says Alex Hodges, vice president of marketing for Russell Athletic, the inventor of the sweatshirt. “Everyone has a favorite sweatshirt and associates that sweatshirt with good times and relaxation.”


Layover Workouts

Long airport layovers can provide time to squeeze in a fitness workout. At Airportgyms.com, you can search for gyms at or near your layover airport. The free site tells you:

  • Where the gym is located

  • How long it will take you to get the gym via taxi or shuttle

  • What type of equipment the facility offers

  • What the gym charges for a day pass

For instance, the site reports that at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, you can pay $15 for a day pass to the Westin Hotel’s health facility. It’s located in terminal A inside the airport and features bikes, treadmills, free weights, a pool and more.
