Nifty ideas you can use to build a better
business
Leash Those Laptops
Last May, burglars lifted a laptop computer from the home of a data analyst at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The machine held the Social Security numbers and personal data of about 26.5 million veterans and military troops. What private information is stored on your company’s laptops? Personal information about customers? Payroll data? The answer to that question is causing many businesses to lock down their laptops.
If you allow employees to take laptops home, or if your employees telecommute, encrypt those machines. You might consider storing sensitive data on a server that can be accessed by employees, rather than storing that data on the laptops themselves. Also, provide cable locks for home-based employees. The same is true if you run your solo business from home.
Lost Luggage
Business travelers can tell horror tales about losing their luggage on an airline trip. But you can increase the chance that your valuable goodies and bags will accompany you all the way to your destination. Try these tips:
If you carry presentation materials and equipment in your bags, consider shipping those bags direct to you destination rather than checking them with the airline.
Check in on time or early so baggage handlers aren’t scrambling at the last minute to get your bags on your flight.
Before each trip, strip old airline tags and stickers off your luggage.
