business
Changing Banks
Ready to move your business banking to a new financial institution? Better make a plan. Changing banks requires more than just moving your money. You’ll also have to make sure that any accounts linked to your bank are also changed. Here’s a quick checklist of things to do:
If you have items such as insurance premiums or retirement plan contributions automatically debited from your bank account, contact those companies with your new bank account information
If you pay credit card balances online by linking them for direct debit from your bank account, go online and change your financial institution information
If you pay taxes online through the U.S. Treasury Department’s Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS), go to the site to change your bank account information
Retail As A Fundraiser
Next time you want to attract attention to your retail shop think about a fundraiser for your local high school. Ask the marching band or the tuba players or the horn section to perform for several hours in front of your shop. Encourage the onlookers who gather to drop money donations in a marching band hat. Offer to give 3 percent or 5 percent of your shop’s sales for the day to the band, and advertise that fact to shoppers. Remember to send a press release about the festive fundraising event to local media. You’ll draw attention to your shop, and your small business will become known as a big supporter of the local school.
