Know-how you need to succeed

Franchise Fine Print

Before you buy a franchise, be sure to read the Uniform Franchise Offering Circular (UFOC). The sheer size of the document can be intimidating, but franchisors are now required to provide a “plain English” UFOC. The new format drops much of the previous legalese, so it’s easier to read. And it contains fine-print information you can’t afford to ignore. Still, hiring an accountant and an attorney to scour the UFOC before you decide to buy a franchise could help you make the right purchasing decision—and save you thousands of dollars later.

Insider Knowledge Makes Good PR

You need a creative hook if you want the media to take notice of your press release—and your business. So use your industry knowledge and expertise to stir the media’s interest in your next press release.

For instance, use a release to report about current trends in your industry. An interior designer might create a press release about fresh, new colors making a debut in homes or offices.

Your press release can make a prediction about an industry. For example, a retail business could point to signals that predict more consumers will do their shopping close to home with retailers who focus on service.

Or use your release to offer an industry analysis. A real estate agent might give the media information about a local home rental market.

Your press release will succeed if you make it relevant to your business, interesting to the media and informative for readers.
