Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Find Suppliers

Some distributors and wholesalers thumb their noses at small-business customers. Those suppliers don’t want to take the time and energy to process your $200 order when they could be taking big-business orders for $10,000. Still, your small business needs supplies – whether it’s packing material or parts to make widgets. Try these sources to find suppliers:

  • Trade associations. Check their Web sites for lists of distributors and wholesalers.

  • Trade magazines. Check out the classified section and display ads.

  • Trade shows. Attend shows and look for potential suppliers.

  • Chamber of commerce. Your local chamber might help steer you toward suppliers.

Spice Up Web Content

Want to make your Web site articles entertaining, easy to read and search engine friendly? Then borrow layout tricks from print magazines. Try these ideas:

  • Set off small chunks of copy in sidebars

  • Use captions for photos and other graphics

  • Pull quotes from the article and set them off in bigger, bolder type

  • Create bulleted lists in separate boxes
