Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Improve Your Elevator Pitch

An elevator pitch is a quick statement that tells a stranger who you are and what you do. The theory is that you have 30 seconds (about the length of an elevator ride) to make a memorable impression. Here’s a tip for creating your pitch: Tap into your passion for your small business. For instance, don’t say, “I own a dog grooming business.” Instead say, “I groom people’s pets. I make them smell good, look great and feel younger.” By conveying your passion, you’ll generate excitement – something that people will remember.

Stuff Your Envelope

The next time you send a direct mail piece, make sure it gets opened by using teaser copy on the outside of the envelope. The teaser should be short, only a few words. And it should make recipients rip open the envelope to see what’s inside. Some ideas for generic teaser copy:

  • Exclusive Money-Saving Offer Inside

  • Save $50 On Your Next Purchase

  • Special Announcement For Our Customers

  • New Product. Save $40. Details Inside.
