Power Back Up

Surge protectors are no longer enough to protect high-tech home offices. Your best defense against blackouts and electrical surges is an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

Look for a UPS that provides automatic voltage regulation (AVR) to suppress spikes that can damage equipment. You also want a battery backup feature that gives you enough time to safely save your computer work and shut down in case of power failure. The more accumulated voltage a UPS handles, the higher the VA rating. For instance, a VA rating of 500 is enough for a tower PC, a mid-sized monitor and an inkjet printer. Postage At Your Desk

If your small office is mailing out a dozen or more pieces of mail each day, you might want to check out the benefits of a postage meter. Using a meter can save you time. It may also save you some money by preventing the need to slap more postage than is necessary on a parcel.

Look for a meter that can be conveniently refilled with postage over the phone or the Web. Some meters allow you to print a promotional message along with your postage. Many provide accounting codes to help you track costs. For more information, visit these Web sites:
