Know-how you need to succeed

Set The Right Price

It’s time to hike prices. But you don’t want customers to abandon your services. Follow these three steps before increasing your fees.

  1. Check the competition. How do your offerings and prices compare?
  2. Understand your customers. Customers are willing to pay more for the services they value most.
  3. Know your bottom line. Some jobs demand more than others. Set prices accordingly, not just based on the number of hours you devote to a job.

Referral Marketing

Link your small business with non-competing but related businesses to expand your marketing. The result: more customers and sales. You can cross promote one another’s businesses on your Web sites, in stores, in mailings and by word-of-mouth referrals. Look for businesses that are related to yours by industry, but don’t compete for customers. Some natural linkups:

  • Writers, graphic designers and printers
  • Electricians, carpenters and painters
  • Pet groomers, veterinarians and pet supply stores
  • Fence builders and landscapers
  • Certified public accountants, estate planners and attorneys
