How Shoppers Shop
A survey by the Center for Customer Driven
Quality at Purdue University shows retailers
how shoppers shop. And judging from the
results, you don’t want to replace your brick
and mortar store location with a Web site.
Here are the findings from the 1,800 people
surveyed:
-
97% of respondents
indicated that they make purchases at store
locations
-
56% said they make
purchases over the Internet
-
40% said they use
the telephone for purchasing
-
34% said they use
the Internet to find information about
intended purchases
-
21% use the
telephone for purchasing research
-
10% actually
conduct research at the store
Planning For The
Worst
An accident, illness or injury can put a
solo entrepreneur out of commission—and out of
income—for weeks or years. Disability
insurance is expensive, but it’s also a safety
net. Here’s some information to help you plan
for the worst.
When selecting the maximum time your benefits
will be paid, don’t stop at five or10 years.
Instead get a policy that provides benefits
until you’re eligible to receive Social
Security, generally between the ages of 65 and
67. Insurers won’t sell you a disability
policy that replaces of all of your income.
But insure yourself for as much as possible,
which means 60 to 80 percent of your pretax
income. You’ll also be able to choose when
your disability benefits kick in, usually from
30 to 120 days. Be aware that the checks
usually won’t start arriving until 30 days
after the time limit that you specify. So if
you choose to begin getting benefits within 60
days, you probably won’t see any money until
90 days.
