Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Timing Sales Calls

To beat the majority of business prospectors out there, make your sales pitches at non-prime time business hours. Call decision-makers at 8 a.m. or 6 p.m. Many higher-ups, including small-business owners, have more free minutes to spare at those times. Or prowl the night with your sales pitch. Leaving voice-mail messages at night means yours will be the first message your prospect hears the next morning. E-mails work the same. Late night e-mails will be waiting when prospects power up their computers the next morning.

Sharing Biz Space

Leased more commercial space than your business needs? Think about subletting unused offices to another business owner who’s interested in sharing more than space. Finding the right person to share your business space will bring in rent money and could help you reduce office expenses. Look for someone who’s willing to share the cost and use of copiers, fax machines, even a receptionist or office assistant. Trim expenses by purchasing office supplies in bulk for the two of you. To find the right space mate, place ads in a local newspaper. Talk to the chamber of commerce about business owners relocating to your city. And tell real estate brokers that you’re looking to sublet office space.
