Bank On Relationships

Most small-business owners have heard this advice: Build a relationship with your banker. A banker who knows your business can provide financial guidance as well as loans and lines of credit. But how do you establish this crucial partnership? Some tips:

  • Find a bank that welcomes businesses of your size and type
  • Open a business checking account and manage it wisely -- avoid overdraws and low balances that trigger service charges
  • To establish business credit, get a short-term loan and pay it off quickly
  • Whenever possible, handle business transactions with the same banker each time

Advertising Redo

Need to increase the number of ads you run without increasing your budget? Reduce the size of your ads. That allows you to run more ads without upping your total cost. And you won't necessarily sacrifice the effectiveness of your advertising. Well-positioned, well-designed small ads can generate just as much or more response than their larger cousins.
