Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Follow-Up Questions

Following up with customers can open the door to more sales and keep lines of communication open. Here are some tips you can use to make the most of your follow-ups:

  • As soon as you deliver an order or complete a service, make a follow-up call. Ask if everything was satisfactory. If there's a problem, handle it immediately and keep the customer happy.

  • Every time you make a follow-up call, ask if there's anything else the customer needs. This simple question spurs the customer to think about additional needs. It also gives you the opportunity to suggest other products and services.

Give 'Em Freebies

Here's a tip to increase customer loyalty -- give a freebie to top customers who make a purchase. You don't have to spend much on the free item; just enough to give the customer a perception of value. For example if you run a clothing store, you could give away a free pair of socks with each purchase during a cold winter month. Are you a computer guru who installs or repairs systems? Try giving away inexpensive surge protectors during thunderstorm season. Offering the freebies a few times a year shows your most valued customers that you appreciate their business.
