Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Designing Startups

For startup businesses, designing a physical space is as important as a creating business plan. And you can get design help in some surprising places. Setting up a home office? Many manufacturers and sellers of office furniture will gladly help you plan the space before you buy furniture. Opening a gift shop? Suppliers of shelving and display cases will frequently help you lay out a top-notch retail floor plan. Best of all, the assistance is usually free for the asking—another big plus for every startup.

Magic Bullets

To spice up your sales copy in brochures, flyers or on your Web site, use bullets or numbers to emphasize lists. Bulleted lists make your message easier to read and visually attractive. Be sure to tout the benefits, not just features, of your services or products. Pinpoint a single benefit with each bullet. Use specific, descriptive words to motivate buyers. For instance, one bullet might read, “Personalized service for every customer.” Another might state, “Lowest prices guaranteed, or your money back.”
