GET CONNECTED TAXES
Savvy strategies to help reduce your taxes

Instant Identification Numbers

The Internal Revenue Service now lets business owners obtain employer identification numbers directly from its Web site. You simply complete an application form online, and the system issues you an employer identification number (EIN). The EIN is your permanent number, and you can use it immediately. For more information, go to www.irs.gov/smallbiz and click on the link “Online Application – Form SS-4.”

The Disappearing Refund

Wondering if you’ll ever receive that IRS tax refund? Now you can check the status of your tax money online at the IRS Web site, www.irs.gov. Just click on the link “Where’s My Refund.” You’ll be taken to a secure page where you must provide your Social Security number, the exact amount of the refund shown on your tax return and the filing status you checked on your return. Presto! The secret whereabouts of your refund will be revealed.
