Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Packaged Vacations

Small-business owners often find it difficult to take a short vacation, let alone take the time to plan a fabulous getaway. So here’s an idea to help you make the break: ready-made vacations. Just choose your destination, and these outfits handle all of the details, planning and arrangements.

Ride the rails with Amtrak’s family vacation packages. They include train tickets, hotel accommodations and sightseeing.

Saddle up for a vacation through the Dude Rancher’s Association Web site. You choose what state or states you want to visit and when you want to go. Then you select which activities you’re interested in, such as river rafting, camping and children’s programs. The Web site’s search engine finds ranches for you across the United States and Canada.

Got a sports fan in the family? Sports Travel and Tours has the vacation for you. This site offers packages for golf, tennis, soccer, NASCAR, hockey, baseball, basketball and football.

Trading Spaces

When you’re in the hunt for new business space, look beyond the location and square footage. A space that might be right for you, your staff and your customers could be all wrong for your technology. You need to identify how much storage room you’ll have for printers, servers and the like. Also look at the number, placement and age of electrical outlets. If you’re eyeing an older building, be aware that there may be a limitation on the number of telephone lines you can install. If you’re unsure whether a potential space can handle your tech load, get inspections and recommendations from a professional.
