Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

E-mail Overload

Between sorting out spam and deleting chain e-mails, it’s all people can do to get through the legitimate business e-mail in their boxes. But you can help thwart e-mail overload. First, use clear and accurate subject lines when sending a message. Your recipient can then decide whether to read your e-mail immediately or save it for later. Second, keep your business e-mail communication short. If it runs more than a couple of paragraphs, make a phone call instead.

Customer-Focused Marketing

Small-business owners can benefit from the old adage that 20 percent of customers account for 80 percent of sales. Simply focus your marketing efforts on customers in your top 20 percent. If you’re placing ads or running direct mail campaigns to attract new customers, divert some of that money to keeping your best clients happy. Give them gifts. Offer discounts. Invite them to exclusive sales. Send them thank-you notes. Special treatment will keep them coming back and boost your profits too.
