Online and off-line stuff to make your business buzz
Obey Labor Laws
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL)
administers plenty of laws that apply to
small-business employers. To help you understand
those laws—and comply with them—the DOL offers
the FirstStep Employment Law Advisor,
www.dol.gov/elaws/FirstStep. You can use the
Web site to find the DOL laws that apply to your
business organization. The site also provides
links to information about how to comply with
DOL laws. In addition, you’ll find links to
state labor offices and other federal agencies,
such as the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commissions and National Labor Relations Board.
Cut Online Costs
Lots of small-business owners pay 25 bucks
a month or more for dial-up Internet access,
yet rarely use all the bells and whistles they
pay for. So why not switch to a bare-bones
service that charges much less? Scores of
small Internet service providers (ISPs) now
offer monthly access for under $10 a month.
Their connections are speedy and reliable,
although you won’t get huge amounts of Web or
e-mail space. Some charge a small setup fee.
You can compare all of the options at
www.theispguide.com.
