Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Look Before You Speak

Linda Kundell, a New York-based public speaking coach has some advice for the public speakers among us: Scope out the room before you start your remarks. Kundell says that rooms have their own personalities, with unique acoustics and lighting. Before your audience arrives, get to know the room. Does the lighting need adjustments? Is there enough light on your notes so you don’t have to strain? Do a sound check to be certain you can be heard at the back of the room. And stand at the podium to see what it feels like. Then walk around the perimeters of the room to develop a “physical” memory of the space. It will add to your comfort.

Web site Spruce Up

Want to give your Web site a fresh look? Revise the color palette. Colors go in and out of style. Use the latest hues, and your site looks up-to-date to visitors. Turn to clothing fashions and home furnishings for guidance on the newest color combinations. For instance, Far East colors, like persimmon and saffron, have enjoyed a run in home furnishings. And jewel tones are the rage in women’s fashion. A bit of colorful window dressing will give your Web site new appeal.
