Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

That Is The Question

Here's a question you might want to spring on your next job candidate: What magazines do you read? The answer can be telling. If you own a bicycle shop and are looking for sales help, answers like Bike or Bicycling could mean you've found the ideal employee. But if he answers Country Gardens, it could spell trouble. Send the applicant to the local garden center for a job. If you're a retailer specializing in teen clothing, hire the first candidate who reads Cosmo Girl, Teen Vogue and Seventeen, but politely decline any applicant who says Barron's is the best magazine going.

On Target Ads

Get more response from your advertising by targeting the message to a single market. Let’s say you sell and install thermal replacement windows for homes. In a real estate publication you might tell home buyers how new windows add value to their investment. In newspaper ads you could preach the energy-saving value of replacement windows. On flyers distributed in historic neighborhoods, you could tell prospects that your replacement windows maintain the look of the historic time period while giving buyers the energy-savings of modern, updated windows.
