Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Trade Show Expert

Lots of small-business owners can’t afford to exhibit at trade shows. But you can still use trade shows as a way to gain visibility for your business. Contact show officials and offer to conduct a seminar. Or offer to be a speaker at one of the show’s special events. Or offer to participate in a panel discussion. All of these options will put you in front of potential customers and help you develop leads. By being in the spotlight, you’ll also build credibility for your small business.

Hiring Signals

Wondering if it’s time to hire extra hands? Look at two warning signals. If your overtime expenses are on the rise, it may be time to add an employee. A seasonal spike in overtime doesn’t count. But if you see a trend in excessive overtime, consider hiring. Also look at your projected business in the next six months. Are you landing bigger projects that will come due in the next six months? Are more prospective customers asking you for job estimates or project quotes? If the opportunities for more business look solid, ramp up now so you won’t be caught short handed.
