Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Rental Car Savings

Next time you need a rental car for a business trip, book ahead and rent the smallest car available. But don’t fret; you most likely won’t wind up driving an uncomfortable subcompact. Those are the cheapest to rent, and they’re the first to get taken. When you arrive at the rental agency, the agency is contractually obligated to give you the next-highest class of vehicle – at no additional charge. If the agency tries to make you pay an upgrade fee, stand firm and politely insist on the upgrade for free.

Free Credit Reports

Sole proprietors must often prove their personal credit worthiness before landing a loan for their small businesses. That process just got easier with the mandate that consumers can get free annual credit reports. By the end of 2005, all U.S. residents will have access to a free report. Here’s the roll out schedule:

  • Western states – Dec. 1, 2004

  • Midwest states – March 1, 2005

  • Southern states – June 1, 2005

  • Eastern states – Sept. 1, 2005
