Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Recruitment Tip

If you’re having trouble finding the workers you need for your business, try varying your recruitment strategies depending on the age of employees you want to attract. Baby boomers tend to be motivated by money and promotions. Younger workers often see additional vacation time and professional training as the best perks. Older employees frequently view the workplace as a social extension of their lives and so they’re willing to work longer hours. The new generation of workers generally shuns work as a social outlet but seeks jobs that will teach them how to work smarter in their chosen field.

Low-Cost Ads

Need to squeeze every penny out of your advertising budget? Search out print publications that offer remnant space.

Remnant space becomes available in a magazine when an advertiser pulls its ad at the last minute or misses a deadline. Publications that run short of ads for a particular issue also sometimes offer remnant space. The result is ad space you can buy at a discounted rate—usually from 30 percent to 70 percent off the standard rate.

To take advantage of these last-minute advertising deals, set aside some of your ad budget money. Contact the publications that you’re interested in and ask them to alert you when remnant space becomes available.

Tip: Rewards Of Outsourcing

For small office entrepreneurs, perhaps the juiciest reward of outsourcing is that it frees you to focus on what you do best and what you enjoy most. Instead of siphoning off your energy and attention on the details of operating a business, outsourcing allows you to devote more time and resources to the creative endeavors that make your business unique.
