Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Sizing Up Retailers

Small retailers can enhance shopper loyalty by differentiating themselves in the eyes of consumers. That’s the finding from a recent IBM survey of American shoppers. Survey participants revealed that store location and prices aren’t the only reasons shoppers choose retailers. They also cited several other reasons for remaining loyal to retailers:

  • The retailer recognizes them as individuals

  • The store is well organized

  • Products are easy to find

  • Employees are knowledgeable and helpful

Is your small retail shop living up to those consumer desires? If not, you could be losing customers to the competition.

Credit Squeeze

Watch those credit card statements. Many card issuers will soon double the minimum monthly payment on card balances from 2 percent to 4 percent. Bank of America, Citibank and MBNA have already announced the change. Other card issuers are expected to join the movement. If your small business is struggling to pay off card balances, the higher minimums could put a dent in your cash flow. On the other hand, paying more each month could help your business get out of debt sooner.
