Hooked On E-Mail

A recent survey by AOL offered good news to small-business owners that want to reach customers by e-mail. The survey asked Americans about their e-mail habits and found that most people are hooked on e-mail communications. Some findings from the survey:

  • 77 percent of e-mail users have more than one e-mail account

  • The average e-mail user checks e-mail nearly five times a day : morning, noon and night, even while driving

  • 40 percent of e-mail users have checked their e-mail in the middle of the night

  • More than one in four (26 percent) say they haven’t gone more than two to three days without checking their e-mail

  • Most e-mail users (56 percent) have two or three e-mail accounts

Money Talk

Here’s tip to help get your cash flowing: At the time you agree on pricing with a client, also discuss payment arrangements. Get an agreement for payment just as you would an agreement for pricing. Put it in writing. For example, “Payment is due upon receipt of invoice,” or “Payment is due within 15 days of invoice.” Whatever your terms, be sure your clients are as clear about paying as they are about the price of the deal.
