Don’t Call And Drive
Last month, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released new research concluding that drivers using mobile phones are four times more likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves. IIHS also indicated that hands-free equipment did not reduce chances of injury to drivers. Other recent studies from the University of Utah and Virginia Tech University have similar findings. “The message is clear: Drivers should not use any type of cell phone behind the wheel,” says Lt. Colonel Jim Champagne, Chair of the Governors Highway Safety Association.
Wasting Time
Chances are, your employees are goofing off while on the job. A survey released last month by America Online and Salary.com showed that the average worker admits to frittering away 2.09 hours per day, not counting lunch. The survey also found that men and women waste about the same amount of time per day. But the statistics revealed that older workers waste less time at work than younger ones. The top two excuses respondents gave for wasting time don’t reflect very well on their employers:
Don’t have enough work to do – 33.2 percent
Underpaid for the amount of work I do – 23.4 percent
