Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Sticky-Fingered Employees

Post-it Notes and pens are the favorite items for employees who pilfer an employer’s supply cabinet. That’s one of the findings in a 2005 survey from Vault, Inc. The survey also found that 67 percent of employees have taken office supplies from work. Other items lifted by workers include envelopes, notepads, paper and highlighters. Small-business employers who are trying to cut costs and save every penny might be smart to put a lock on their supply cabinets.

Saving Face

If you have trouble remembering the names of business contacts, at least remember their faces. It could save you embarrassment the next time you meet. For example, on a second encounter you can greet the person by saying, “I remember we met at the chamber dinner, but I’m sorry, I’ve forgotten your name.” Or you could simply say, “I’m sorry. I recognize your face, but I’ve forgotten your name.” Remember to smile as you say those words, and your loss of memory will be forgiven every time.
