Crunching Numbers

Just because you were lousy at math doesn’t mean you should avoid the financial details of your small business. A financial plan can help keep you going steady even when times get rough. If you can’t crunch the numbers alone, get help from an accountant. Here are three reasons you need to understand what your business finances are saying:

  1. Financial projections help you see when money is coming in, when it’s going out and how to balance the two.

  2. Should you launch a new product line? Offer a new service? Financial planning can help you evaluate the answers.

  3. Do you need to hire an employee? Your financial data will tell you whether you can afford a part-time or full-time worker.

Hidden Content

Looking for free content to spice up your small-business Web site? Check your file drawers or the folders on your computer. You probably have copies of product handouts, presentations you’ve made to clients or background information you’ve collected about your industry. All of those items can be gently reworked and posted on your Web site. Look for information that will intrigue, entertain and inform your Web visitors. Just a few paragraphs or a few photos or a few charts and graphs might be all you need to freshen up your site.
