Help Employees Save On Gas

You’re not the only one feeling pain at the gas pump. Your employees are spending more too in their commutes to and from the office. Show them you sympathize – and give them some help. Try these ideas:

  • If employees use their own vehicles on the job, be sure you offer mileage reimbursement up to the IRS cap of 44.5 cents per mile

  • Help employees organize carpools

  • Offer telecommuting if possible

  • Offer flex schedules so employees can avoid idling in rush-hour traffic

  • Provide public transportation tickets or tokens

Entrepreneurs By The Numbers

In 2005, there were 464,000 people creating new business every month. That’s the finding from the “Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity,” a report provided by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. The Index is the only study that measures business startup activity in the U.S. adult population at the individual owner level. The report also found that increases in business startup increased in the Northeast and Midwest, but decreased in the West and South. Get more numbers at www.kauffman.org.
