Price Hike

A recent survey conducted by online payroll service SurePayroll showed that most small-business owners feel it’s getting harder to stay profitable, yet they’ve avoided raising prices. While 92 percent of respondents noticed an increase in the cost of doing business in 2007, more than 70 percent have chosen not to raise prices to offset costs. That’s not good for business. If costs are going up, you’ve got to raise your prices to stay profitable. Communicate with your customers. Give them a heads up about when and why you plan to raise your prices.


Slackers

Think your employees are slacking off? You might be right. A recent survey by Salary.com, a provider of compensation management, found that the average employee wastes 1.7 hours of a typical 8.5 hour work day. How are they wasting those hours? Here are the biggies according to the survey:

  • Personal Internet use
  • Socializing with co-workers
  • Conducting personal business
