Becoming The Boss
Article 8: Outsource More Work

A proliferation of independent contractors and businesses have emerged to take on the tasks that solo entrepreneurs either can’t or don’t want to handle. Nowadays you can outsource almost any chore:

  • Marketing

  • Web site development

  • Accounting

  • Data processing

  • Payroll

The list goes on. And many times organizations or individuals outside of your enterprise can complete the tasks faster, cheaper and better than you – or an employee – can.

You can outsource work in areas where you lack expertise. You can hire someone to help out on projects that are too large for you to tackle alone. You can offload chores that you dread doing – for a few months or forever. You can pay for services that would improve your business but you simply don’t have the time to do.

If you’re sailing solo, outsourcing can be a step you take to see if you actually need to hire an employee. By outsourcing first, you’ll be able to determine what tasks can be delegated. And it will help you find out if you’re really as overwhelmed with work as you sometimes feel.
In the next article on Entrepreneurial Connection, we’ll take an in-depth look at when and how you can outsource to build a stronger business.
