Article 6: Business Card Bonanza
Business cards are nearly as essential to
marketing as products are to a business. How
many missed opportunities can you afford? Every
time you meet someone and have no business card
to offer, you miss an opportunity.
The ubiquitous business card is often taken for
granted, but it serves many essential purposes.
Perhaps nothing in your marketing arsenal is
such an all-purpose tool.
- Basic information:
Make sure every method of
connecting with you is included on the business
card; name, phone, cell phone, address, fax,
e-mail, Web site, online chat service
identifications.
- Appearance:
As small as it is, the business
card still conveys the nature and stature of
your business. A cheesy looking card conveys
just that type of image. Splurging on a slick
looking business card is well within the
low-cost budget of every entrepreneur. Don’t cut
corners.
- Don’t horde:
Toss your business cards like
rice at a wedding. That’s what they’re for. They
serve no purpose stuck in your purse or hidden
in your vest pocket. Give them away constantly.
- Biz card as staple:
With every brochure you
distribute, every mailing you send, every
package or parcel, include your business card.
If you mail 1,000 items a year and only 1
percent of them end up contacting you because
they kept your card, that’s 10 more
opportunities to sell. Not bad for the price of
paper and ink.
- Tactics: Yes, some folks hate having business
cards pushed on them unrequested. So, request
the other person’s first. Then give yours in
return. Voila! Rudeness avoided, mission
accomplished.
Tip:
The business card as goodbye can be
unobtrusive and effective. As you leave, offer
your card and a helping hand: “If there’s
anything I can do for you, please just contact
me…”
