Article 6: Sigs - The Personal Touch
“Sigs” or signature lines are the few words or
lines you attach to your name in outgoing
e-mail. Think of them as customized return
addresses, mottos, advertisements and homilies
all rolled into one.
It is inexcusable not to use signature lines
since they cost nothing, can serve a variety of
purposes and in most software programs can be
automated.
There is no reason to re-type your name and
address or anything else at the end of every
e-mail you send. Automate a sig line once, and
it will be applied to every outgoing e-mail you
send. It’s likely your e-mail software even
permits you to create more than one version,
then choose from a menu which to attach and
which to designate as the default.
It is easy to add a signature line. Microsoft
Outlook, for example, allows storing a number of
custom sig lines so you can select the
appropriate one, according to the type of
recipient.
For example, you may create a simple sig line
such as this with just name and basic contact
information:
Sue
Jones
Jones Widgets
jones@widget.com
The sig
also can be set apart from the rest of your
message with characters in this way:
++++++++++++++++
Sue Jones
Jones Widgets
jones@widget.com
++++++++++++++++
And your sig line can be as
creative as you like:
\|||/
(o o)
----ooO-(_)-Ooo--------
Cordially Kilroy…
Or you may opt for an elaborate
sig line including detailed information,
instructions, business hours, mottos, slogans,
hyperlinks, as comprehensive as you desire.
